At the Elektra, AKM Architects used transferred air rights for a new 32 story residential tower containing 166 units. With distinctively arranged blue and gray masonry, the Elektra’s two-color brick design enables traditionally unsightly exposed concrete to become an integral design element. Gradually reducing the darker brick as the tower rises creates an illusion of reduced mass. Windows and louvers in varying shades of blue and gray, and tinted glass balconies impart subtle layers of depth to the façade.
